Day 14 · Fact Check

Fancy trying a puzzle right now?

Four cards explain how to get into the House common rooms. Three describe the castle’s real rules. One rule was quietly made up.

A. Gryffindor Tower

The Fat Lady’s portrait covers the entrance. She demands the current password, which changes regularly. Forget it and you’ll have to wait for someone who remembers.

B. Ravenclaw Tower

The bronze eagle door knocker asks a new riddle or philosophical question each time. If you don’t know the answer, wait for someone who does.

C. Hufflepuff Common Room

The entrance is hidden behind barrels near the kitchens. Pick the wrong barrel or lose the beat and you’ll get a drenching in vinegar.

D. Slytherin Dungeons

The entrance is an almost invisible doorway in the stonework. The password is fixed: it’s chosen once at the beginning of the year, and the matter is never raised again.

Which card is wrong? Show the answer

Card D. The entrance really is disguised as a stone wall, but the password changes every fortnight. A fixed password would be convenient, but Hogwarts rarely confuses convenience with security.
